Pope Gregory VS King Henry IV
The Conflict
The main conflict between Pope Gregory and King Henry was a power struggle. When Pope Gregory was chosen to be the new pope, the king was worried that he would gain touch power over him and his people. Because of his jealousy and wanting more control, the pope excommunicated him from the church as a punishment. This was very bad for King Henry because after he was excommunicated, the pope had the power to excommunicate all the King's people. King Henry knew he had to earn back the pope's forgiveness, so he waited outside the castle to give the pope his reasoning. The pope made him wait outside in the snow for three days to prove he had more power. Finally, the Pope forgave him, but they remained enemies and continued to attack each other. In the end, King Henry died. The pope was the winner of this "battle".

Life of a Monk
I am a monk that lives in a monastery during the medieval times. Life for us is pretty simple but involves a lot of work and dedication. My fellow monks and I all follow three vows: The Vow of Poverty, The Vow of Chasity, and The Vow of Obedience. We lived by these vows. Throughout our day we worship, read, have to participate in manual labor. Some of the chore were providing medical help for the community, cooking and cleaning for the monastery, providing education for boys and novices, raising crops, etc. Us monks also have to have jobs in the monastery and community. These jobs can be very important, or not so important to the growth of the monastery. A few are the Abbott: head of the abbey, barber surgeon: shaved heads and performed light surgery, Almoner: officer of the monastery, and many more jobs. Being a monk is hard work, but it is how we want our lives and destiny to be.
One of the most important things we do in the monastery is read the Book of Hours. We spend hours at a time, all day, each day reading this book and worshiping. These readings help secure salvation for our selves. Another extremely important thing we monks do is scribe events and historical happens that occur in out time period. If we were not to do this, the people in the future will not know what happed when monks were around. It isn't just events that happen within the monastery that we scribe, we scribe events that are significant to the time period. Just think, what would the future be like without us? This is the daily life of a monk .
