THE ROMAN REPUBLIC- APRIL 509 B.C.
If I could choose which position of government I could work in I would be in the Consuls. I would want to be this position because you are elected to represent the state and make decisions. Having this power could help you improve your city.

The Twelve Tables
The Twelve Tables were the laws on ancient Rome. They made it so the Patricians could make Plebeians slaves and do things against the law, and so that the Patricians couldn't change laws. Also, they made it so that criminals could not claim they did not know they broke the law.
Romans- Monarchy vs Republic
The Romans switched from a monarchy to a Republic because they did not want one person to have too much power over their society. Once they switched to a republic they decided to enforce checks and balances within their branches of government. Checks and Balances is a system of government that prevents any one part of the government from becoming too powerful. This helped their governemnt system stay in order rather this chaos.
Roman vs USA Government
In Ancient Rome, their government is very different their ours today. For example, Rome's legislative branch consists of two consuls while the USA's legislative branch consists of the Senate and House of Representatives. Also, the USA does not ever have to pick a dictator to rule in times of crisis. Although there are many differences, there are many similarities between Roman government and the USA. An example of this is how the governments both have a Senate in one of their branches. The Roman government had 3 branches, just as the USA has today. Another way Roman government and USA government are similar because they both have different rulers for each branch of government.
